Apex Award: Best Win/Loss Record
Winners: Vincent Chen (1429) — 4–0 (100%) Davood Rasouli (1507) — 4–0 (100%) Bahjat Shaheen-Vélez (991) — 4–0 (100%)
This week’s Apex Award featured a three-way tie, with Vincent Chen, Davood Rasouli, and Bahjat Shaheen-Vélez each completing the night with a perfect 4–0 record.
Finishing undefeated in league competition requires consistency from match to match, and all three players delivered exactly that throughout the evening.
With four victories apiece, Chen, Rasouli, and Shaheen-Vélez demonstrated the ability to maintain their level of play across a full night of competition. Their perfect records highlight not only strong results, but also the focus and competitive discipline required to avoid a loss when every match presents a new challenge.
Sharing the Apex Award this week, all three players earned recognition for one of the most difficult accomplishments in league play: leaving the night undefeated.
Rising Star Award: Biggest Rating Point Gain
Winner: Leo Wang (1092) — +51 Rating Points
Leo Wang was one of the biggest movers of the night, recording a 51-point rating increase to earn this week’s Rising Star Award. A gain of this size reflects a particularly strong night of results and represents a significant step forward in Wang’s competitive progression.
Wang’s performance stood out not only because of the rating points gained, but because of the momentum it creates going forward. Rating gains of this magnitude can be an important indicator of a player translating strong performances into measurable competitive growth.
With a +51 point increase, Leo Wang leaves this week’s league with one of the night’s most notable individual improvements and plenty of momentum heading into future competition.
Lion Heart Award: Biggest Upset Win
Winner: Leo Wang (1092) vs. Aleem Mohammed (1473) Rating Deficit: 381 Points
Leo Wang also claimed the Lion Heart Award after defeating Aleem Mohammed despite entering the matchup with a 381-point rating deficit. It was one of the most significant rating disparities overcome during the evening, making the victory a standout moment of this week’s league.
Upsets of this magnitude are what make competitive league nights unpredictable. Facing an opponent rated substantially higher requires confidence, composure, and the ability to take advantage of opportunities when they arise. Wang’s victory demonstrated that rating numbers do not always determine the outcome once the match begins.
The win was especially significant given Wang’s already impressive +51 rating-point gain on the night. By defeating a player rated 381 points higher, Leo not only secured one of the evening’s biggest upsets but also capped off a breakthrough performance that earned him recognition in two major award categories this week.
