Apex Award: Best Win/Loss Record

Winner: Vincent Chen (1463) — 5–0 (100%)

Vincent Chen delivered one of the strongest performances of the evening, completing the night with a perfect 5–0 record and a 100% win rate. Chen not only remained undefeated, but also played and won five full matches, making his perfect record

especially notable among the night’s top performers.

Several other players also finished the evening undefeated, including Davood Rasouli (1542), Wesley Wu (1789), and Huanbin Zhang (1383). However, Chen’s five completed

victories distinguished his performance and earned him this week’s Apex Award.

Maintaining a perfect record across five matches requires consistency from start to finish. Chen demonstrated the ability to stay focused through a full league schedule, handling each matchup with determination and maintaining his level of play throughout the evening.

His 5–0 finish was a clear reflection of both competitive consistency and sustained performance under league conditions.

Rising Star Award: Biggest Rating Point Gain

Winner: Sumay Kaushal (717 → 783) — +66 Rating Points

Sumay Kaushal earned this week’s Rising Star Award after recording the largest rating point gain of the tournament. Beginning the evening with a rating of 717, Kaushal gained

an impressive 66 points, finishing the night at 783.

A rating increase of this size represents a meaningful step forward and highlights the impact of a strong competitive performance. Kaushal’s results throughout the evening translated into significant progress in the ratings, making this one of the most notable rating gains of the night.

The Rising Star Award recognizes more than a single result—it reflects progress, development, and the ability to turn competitive opportunities into measurable improvement. Kaushal’s +66 point increase made him one of the evening’s standout

performers and a player to watch as league competition continues.

Lion Heart Award: Biggest Upset Win

Winner: Enrique Villena (1179) vs. Teddy Bricker (1599) Rating Differential: 420 Points

Enrique Villena captured the Lion Heart Award with one of the most dramatic upsets of the evening, defeating Teddy Bricker despite a massive 420-point rating differential.

Facing an opponent rated significantly higher presents an immediate challenge, but Villena was able to overcome the considerable rating gap and secure the victory. Results like this are a reminder that league matches are decided at the table, where confidence, focus, and execution can change the outcome regardless of the numbers next to a player’s name.

Villena’s victory stands out not only because of the result itself, but because of the magnitude of the rating difference. A 420-point upset represents one of the most significant underdog victories of the night and made Villena a clear choice for this week’s Lion Heart Award.

Night Highlights

The August 19th ATTC League featured a strong mix of consistency, improvement, and major upsets. Vincent Chen led the night with a flawless 5–0 record, distinguishing himself with five completed victories despite several other players also finishing undefeated.
