Apex Award: Best Win/Loss Record

Winner: Han Chen (1610 → 1622) — 6–0 (100%)

Han Chen delivered the most dominant performance of the evening, completing the October 7th league with a perfect 6–0 record and a 100% win rate. With six victories and no losses, Chen not only remained undefeated but also recorded the highest number of wins among the night’s top performers.

Finishing 6–0 requires consistency across an extended night of competition. Chen maintained his performance through six matches, successfully navigating each matchup and closing out the evening without dropping a match. His ability to remain focused and effective from the beginning of the session through the final match made his performance the clear choice for this week’s Apex Award.

Chen also finished the night with a rating increase, moving from 1610 to 1622. While the rating gain itself was not the largest of the evening, his flawless 6–0 record made his overall performance the strongest in terms of win/loss results.

Honorable Mentions: Tom Fleshman (1883 → 1896) also remained undefeated with a strong 4–0 record, while Alan Xian (1986 → 1992) completed a perfect 3–0 night. Both players delivered excellent performances, but Chen’s six victories gave him the edge for the Apex Award.

Rising Star Award: Biggest Rating Point Gain

Winner: Vincent Huang (1017 → 1052) — +35 Rating Points

Vincent Huang earned the Rising Star Award after recording the largest net rating gain of the evening. Beginning the league at 1017, Huang finished at 1052, gaining 35 rating

points over the course of the night.

A rating increase represents more than simply a change in numbers—it reflects the impact of a player’s results against the competition they faced. Huang’s +35 gain marked the strongest overall rating progression of the evening and highlighted a successful night of league play.

Moving from 1017 to 1052 also places Huang at an important point of progression, with his performance pushing him further into the 1000+ rating range. His ability to turn a strong league showing into measurable rating improvement made him a deserving recipient of this week’s Rising Star Award.

Lion Heart Award: Biggest Upset Win

Winner: Aleem Mohammed (1396 → 1432) vs. David Lee (1480 → 1447) Rating Difference: 84 Point Rating Gain from Match: +16 Points

Aleem Mohammed captured the Lion Heart Award after defeating David Lee in one of the evening’s notable underdog victories. Entering the match rated 1396, Mohammed faced Lee at 1480, creating an 84-point rating difference in Lee’s favor.

Despite the rating disadvantage, Mohammed came away with the victory and earned 16 rating points from the match, contributing to his overall rise from 1396 to 1432 by the end of the league.

The victory demonstrated Mohammed’s ability to perform against a higher-rated opponent and capitalize on an important competitive opportunity. Overcoming an 84-point gap made this a clear Lion Heart performance and one of the more noteworthy

individual results of the evening.

Honorable Mention: Jason Franklin also recorded an impressive upset over David Lee, defeating the 1480-rated player while entering the matchup at 1341—a substantial 139-point rating difference. Franklin’s victory was another strong example of the competitive unpredictability of the league and deserves recognition alongside Mohammed’s award-winning upset.
