2016 ATTC Board Elections

Nominations were closed on May 6th for the three positions up for election; Vice-President, Treasurer, and a Director-at-Large position. Statements from each person nominated will be hosted below.

This year there will be an electronic ballot that will compile the election results. In order for your vote to count, your name and email used for the ballot MUST match that which is on your club MindBodyOnline account at the front desk. These electronic ballots must be completed no later than May 28th and results will be announced on May 29th.

New Bylaws:
Yes: 67 Votes
No: 5 Votes

Eligible voters will include all members who have been monthly members for three consecutive months as of the election. The official list of eligible voters is HERE. Any questions about eligibility should be directed to Marguerite. Only the vote counter and one assistant will see the individual results.

NOTE: We had some questions come up about voting guidelines and here are the rules as per our current bylaws:

Section 2. Voting Member. A Voting Member shall be any member that is 18 years of age or older, and has been an Active Member for at least three (3) consecutive months. Voting Members may vote in Club meetings and elections.

The NEW bylaws amend this rule and it reads as follows:
Voting Member. A Voting Member shall be any member that is 18 years of age or older; for members who are under 18 yrs old, their guardian could represent them to execute the vote; for family memberships, only two votes are valid, and has been an Active Member for at least three (3) consecutive months before the election deadline.

However, the election is trying to pass amended bylaws so it is prudent that we proceed using the old bylaws as the rules for the election. NEXT election the eligibility will be a little bit different.

Phil Lahman - Vice President (Incumbent)
I have always liked Austin Table Tennis Club. Why? Common goals and diversity. Everyone I meet in this club appears to want to be better at the game we enjoy. I had the good fortune of working for Hewlett Packard in Roseville, California for a number of years. Until that period of my life, my exposure to different cultures was limited. I was old enough during my HP years to start really noticing how cultural diversity is important to life in the USA. The set of people I interact with in Sun City is not as culturally diverse as the people I see and know at ATTC. My life in Sun City, Georgetown Texas, involves bicycling, table tennis and eating restaurant food.     It might be viewed as boring compared to what you can experience at Attc. What do I experience at ATTC?   Competition, conversation, coaching (from coaches and competitors) and a place to share. I want ATTC to continue to grow with players of all ages.   Seeing young players enjoy and advance in the skills of the game, puts a smile on my face. I hope you share that goal and allow me to continue providing assistance to the board as the club evolves.

John Muhich - Treasurer (Incumbent)
My name is John Muhich and I have been involved with The Austin Table Tennis Club since 1999 when the club started at the East First Street location.  Because of my passion for the sport, I donated land for the club in 2011 to help the club expand to its current location and fulfill my desire to grow table tennis in Austin.  As your current board member, I can't express enough how proud I am to be a part of our organization. Due to the efforts of our excellent management team, the board and volunteers, the club has achieved many successes.

Rony Joy - Treasurer
Dear fellow players, Most of you know me… Like all of you, I love table tennis sports and I love our club. If I am elected I would do everything possible to increase the interaction between our members and board members, which would help the board bring the club to new heights. Additionally, I believe is that we should have an “affordable youth/coaching program” so that our kids can play without worrying about cost, and be able to focus on developing their skills. Table tennis is a tough physical/mental sports that requires good practice and pool of coaches to guide the kids. I also believe that players at all age should have easier/affordable access to coaching programs according to their preference. Another thing I would like to implement is to make the financial details of the club easily accessible to the members of the club, to create a healthier financial environment. Please vote for me.

Thanks,

Rony Joy

David Lee - Director at Large
My name is David Lee. My wife (Lily) and I joined this fine organization early this year and are immensely proud to be members of the Austin Table Tennis Club. Within this short time-frame, we have rediscovered the love for table tennis and are very appreciative of members and staff who have helped us to improve our level of play. We have enjoyed volunteering our time to help with various events (the 2016 TMS College Table Tennis National Championship and our very own Austin Spring Event), and I have also helped in entering results for our league tournaments.

Jenny Hicks - Director at Large
I have come to Austin Table Tennis Club when my son joined the youth program. Adults and kids love the sport because it is fun, healthy, and safe. I am honored to be asked by parents and other members to run for the director position. If elected, I plan to help ensure that the club will continue to operate smoothly for everyone and to unite the club.

I come to the club often and I would love to hear everyone 's concerns and ideas and to learn from everyone.
